Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) on Thursday held its 47th annual general meeting. RIL Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani also addressed the stakeholders of the company during its AGM.
Ambani made remarks about the company's 5G spectrum, artificial intelligence investments, Jio division number increase, and more. Reliance also announced a Jio TV OS as well as many AI-powered services during the event.
Big Announcements from the AGM of RIL
Reliance was betting big on deep tech and Ambani said they were doing so in three ways:
On the one hand, integrating new technologies across all its businesses just to adapt and increase operational efficiency.
Second, the company was investing in building key technologies within its own walls to help advance its products and reduce dependence on third-party companies.

5G and JioAirFiber
Talking about Jio, Ambani said that the company has imbibed more than 350 patents in technologies related to 5G and also works on proof-of-concept of 6G. He also stated that over 85 percent of the total radio cells operating in India are on the Jio network. More than 130 million customers have also been upgraded by the company to its True 5G networks.
The company also claims to have 1 million customers for its JioAirFiber, the 5G-based home broadband service that was launched last year. The company now aims to deliver the service in over 100 million homes, 20 million SMEs (Small and Midsize Enterprises), more than one million schools & colleges, and over seventy thousand hospitals.
JioBrain
Reliance also launched its AI engine called JioBrain with deep learning inferences, which can be leveraged on top of the low latency 5G stack developed by Reliance researchers to build new CX products and solutions. With JioBrain-powered AI technologies being embedded into its processes and offerings, RIL is transitioning to built end-to-end workflows.
Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer
Ambani also announced the 'Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer' during the RIL AGM 2024. Under this offer, Jio users will get up to 100 GB of free cloud storage. The Welcome Offer will be introduced this Diwali.
JioTV+
Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) announced new features for JioTV+. Alongside over 860 live TV channels in HD quality, subscribers can watch content from OTT (over-the-top) streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar. Ambani also claimed that the platform features a super-fast channel-switching experience.

JioTV+ also includes a recommendation engine that can give suggestions to the user based on his / her viewing habits. Additionally, a new feature named Catc-Up TV will allow users to watch any show on live television even after it has aired. This feature goes back up to seven days.
JioTV OS and Hello Jio
At the AGM, a new operating system for Jio Set-Top Box called JioTV OS was announced. With the latest OS, Ambani claimed everyone will get a "faster and smoother experience. It also provides Dolby Vision as well as ultra-HD 4K video resolution and sound in Dolby Atmos.
The Chairman of RJIL also added that the operating system will provide a unified interface for multiple apps, combined with live TV and shows.
The company is also rolling out enhancements to Hello Jio, its TV OS voice assistant. Users can visit Hello Jio by tapping on the microphone button of the JIO remote. It now includes generative AI into the system for Natural Language Understanding.
Ambani claims it will make searching for content on JioSTB more convenient because users can make abstract requests and the voice assistant will have no problems. Additionally, the tool can search for content across all OTT platforms and display a single list in a combined manner.

Jio has also introduced a brand new, JioHome app that seamlessly integrates IoT solutions viz., surveillance cameras (connected through Gateway), video door phones (smart security for homes), and smart plugs to the television and will be available as on June 1st.
The app will function as a personal control center for all those IoT facilities, and allow users to manage multiple devices with just a click of their smartphone including Wi-Fi, smart devices, etc. It also features malware detection and guest Wi-Fi management.
JioPhoneCall AI
The other important announcement at the RIL AGM was about JioPhoneCall AI The new version of the service provides access to AI functionality in response to any phone call. The service hooks into Jio Cloud for recording the call and storing it, which gets automatically transcribed via an algorithm developed in-house.

This would mean a separate, dedicated number that Jio users have to the PhoneCall AI. Users can add this number to their call as a conference call.

JioCinema also added 15 million paying subscribers within weeks of the launch, he said.
Currently, the service comprises a mix of original shows as well as hand-picked reality TV and movie content from HBO, Paramount, and NBCU.
